What happens to used Original Consumables?
02/12/2009
From toner cartridge to flower pot. Our recycling programme gives all our used and returned consumables a new lease of life.
When one of your printer consumables reaches the end of its life, it doesnt mean its the end of the road. Through OKI Printing Solutions Collection and Returns Programme, every used consumable is saved from landfill and transformed into a new product with a new lease of life.
The principal materials used in our Original Consumables are metals, plastics, paper and toner powder. As the used consumables are returned to our Regional Distribution Centres they are counted sorted and then segregated by the types of material. Once the materials have been broken down they are passed on to nominated recyclers.
Metals are seperated and uplifted by metal smelters where they are melted down in to nuggetts for onward use by industry.
Plastics are seperated, cleaned then uplifted by plastics recyclers who melt down the plastic from which pellets are formed for plastics manufacturers
Wood, paper and cardboard are seperated and reused via paper and pulp manufacturers
Toner powders may already bemixed but others will be kept as their seperate colours for use in building aggregates and road surfacing materials
Wind turbines, solar panels, compost bins, garden benches and flower pots are among many of the products in which OKI Printing Solutions are saved from landfill and processed for recycling.
